Spain Bus Crash: 83 Injured After 20-Meter Plunge

(MENAFN) At least 83 people were hurt when a passenger bus careened off a narrow mountain road and plummeted 20 meters down a steep embankment in Spain’s northeastern Barcelona province, local authorities said Monday.

The crash happened Sunday in Fogars de Montclus, along a tight, winding stretch of road. The bus left the carriageway and tumbled down the slope, and investigators have not yet established why, a public broadcaster reported.

Catalonia’s Health Minister Olga Pane gave the casualty breakdown: 58 people suffered minor injuries, 18 were moderately hurt and seven were in serious condition.

No deaths have been confirmed so far. Officials cautioned, however, that the toll could still rise, pointing to the treacherous terrain around the crash site.

The vehicle was running a shuttle service between Montseny Natural Park and Fogars de Montclus, collecting passengers at multiple stops along the route.
